Room Selection
|
The room selection is very important, it is going to be the place that your baby will stay most of the time, and you want to make it as pleased and comfortable as possible. To parents who live in a two-bedroom house or apartment, this is an easy decision. But, if you have a choice between a few bedrooms, or you are building one from scratch, you may want to consider the following:
The distance or proximity of the baby's room to yours. I bet you don't wanna walk from one side to the other side of the house many times at night during feedings. We suggest a room that is closer to your room. Specially if you are one of those moms, who have to hear their baby's move everytime, a room next to yours is ideal. Of course, this isn't a rule, to some people, sleeping to close to a baby's room may be a nightmare.
The direction the room is facing. This is also important because most babies nap quite a few times a day, so the amount of sunlight in the baby's room may affect his/her sleeping habits. Check if the room faces North, East, West, or South of the house. For example, if the room faces east, then your baby may become an early riser due to the amount of morning sunlight streaming in the windows. The North side of your house will get the least amount of sunlight, while the South side of your house will get the most (in North America).
How far is the room from busy roads, or actual street noises, or even simply the busy áreas of your actual home. Here, there two things to consider: you may live in a house or apartmente where the window of the baby's room is way too close to a busy street; or the baby's room is next to a Tv room, or dining place where mostly the home activity takes place. Well, in both cases, you may consider take a few precautions, in order to keep your baby's nap protected form noises. A good tip is seal the windows and doors or soundproof the walls.
The size of the room. A good way to select the size of the room is based on how you plan to use the nursery. Perhaps you will use it just for sleeping or a combination of bedroom and playroom. These are both common, some parents may choose to keep the baby's toys separate from his/her nursery, so the baby's room is used only for sleeping, being just a quiet place to hang. While others decide to include the toys and double the nursery as a playroom, where the baby can also play when gets a little bit older.
